OCMS was happy to welcome our upcoming 6th graders today! We're also super proud of our 8th grade tour guides that did a great job of giving tours, answering questions, & fostering in the newbies.

FCCLA members traveled to Funopolis for their end of the year summer social. The event officially wraps up the FCCLA calendar and celebrates all of the hard work and effort of members throughout the 2025-2026 school year.

So proud of the OCMS students that were honored Tuesday at each grade level OCMS Student Recognition Ceremony & proud of the student body that was so well behaved at each ceremony. Almost 700 awards were handed out for various achievements throughout the year. Thanks to the Kettle Creek Chapter NSDAR and to the Oglethorpe County Retired Educators Association for sponsoring our major 8th grade awards by recognizing Molly Graham, Calvin Hgay, Emma Satterfield, & OCMS Teacher of the Year, Kristin Byce.
Apologies for not getting more pictures throughout the day. Feel free to post your own pictures of your child & their awards in the Facebook comments.

Our 8th grade Food, Nutrition, and Wellness classes put their newly learned knife skills to work during a fun food science pickling experiment! 🥒🔬 Each group created their own unique pickle flavors — everything from Kool-Aid pickles and “vampire repellent” garlic pickles to classic dill and spicy varieties. Students explored the science behind pickling while practicing safe cutting techniques and teamwork in the kitchen. Of course, the best part was the follow-up taste test! The creativity (and bravery!) of our students made this experiment a huge success!

The 2026 8th Grade After Party is in the books. What a great crew to spend a Friday night with. This year brought the debut installment of an inflatable relay to After Party events. It was also interesting to hear songs of Pearl Jam & Keith Whitley chosen during the karaoke portion of the night. This group proves there is hope for the future. Only two more weeks of middle school for these guys!

Happy National School Nurses Day!
Thank you to our school nurses who are the calm in the chaos, the care behind every student’s smile, and the heartbeat of our schools.

The OCMS FCCLA officer team finished out the 2025-2026 school year with a Paint Party afternoon. Thanks to these kiddos for all the hard work they have put in behind the scenes!

We appreciate our school principals!

Thank you to our amazing Nutrition Staff on School Lunch Hero Day! ! Not all heroes wear capes!

Our ELL classes recently celebrated International Food Day in a truly meaningful (and delicious!) way. Each student prepared and brought a dish representing their home country, creating a vibrant showcase of culture and tradition. The variety of dishes shared made it a truly special experience for everyone involved.
A heartfelt thank you to the parents for your support in helping provide these special dishes. Your contributions made this experience even more memorable for our students!

Guests were treated to one more fantastic band concert Tuesday night at OCMS. Great job to Ms. Serrian & her 6th/7th Grade Band, Jazz Band, and 8th Grade Band. It was all capped with an awesome performance of “Egyptique” performed by a “middle school alumni band” consisting of current and former middle school band members from the classes of 2026-2032. See the Facebook post for concert pics!

“Let me tell you, brother! These bruisers posted a perfect score on the this past WriteScore Assessment & got to tote the championship belt last week!"
Well done, Lucas Stalvey & Bella Webb!
Now switch to a Ric Flair “Woooooo!”

Our 4th quarter Leadership class has been exploring the importance of strong leadership and effective teamwork. This week, students had the opportunity to apply these skills through a cup stacking activity. Over several rounds, they were challenged with different guidelines, including no talking, allowing only the leader to speak, encouraging full team communication, and developing their own strategies. While some groups found more success than others, each round offered meaningful opportunities for growth. During reflection, students shared that having strong leadership qualities and clear communication plays a key role in a team’s overall success.

Congratulations to these awesome students who were selected by their teachers for the Patriot Pride luncheon for the month of April for being examples of well rounded students in & out of the classroom.
