Our amazing Teachers of the Year were recognized at the Board of Education meeting last night. Congrats to Adriane Echols (Primary School, Leanne Carter (Elementary School), Jill Barnes (Middle School), and Erin Bunch (High School) on being selected as the Teacher of the Year at their respective schools.

Our OCMS Cross Country team had a great run at the Braves Invitational at Council Farms in Milledgeville, GA Saturday morning! Jonah Burke medaled in 6th place running with 90+ male runners. Meadow Nimmons medaled in 10th place against 100+ female runners.

THANKS so much to the donors, students, parents, parent volunteers, & teachers for making our Fall Fundraiser & Patriot Color Run put on through MyBooster.com! Our kids had a great time today & we raised a lot of funds to be used for the fun stuff we do at OCMS! Our donor page ( at MyBooster.com) will be open for the next few days if you missed out on helping. We met our goal of $5,000 resulting in sliming Mrs. Casper. Mr. Baldwin can still get turned into a human ice cream sundae if we get to $8,000 before the window closes.

Some of Mrs. Atao’s classes celebrated Georgia Reads Day with some guest readers. Jessica Hayes from Rep. Mike Collins’ office read about Fredrick Douglass to 7th graders while John Mark Shelnutt, manager of Watson Mill State Park, read a story about bears to 8th graders.

Oglethorpe County Schools will be operating on a regular schedule tomorrow, but CLOSED ON FRIDAY! All after-school activities including ASPIRE have been canceled for Thursday. We are following GEMA and Homeland Security’s recommendations. We are continuing to watch and assess the weather closely and will make the best decision for our students and staff, always keeping safety in mind!

Congratulations to these awesome students who were selected by their teachers for the Patriot Pride luncheon for the month of September for being examples of well rounded students in & out of the classroom. Shout out to Crawford Pizza for their supply of our Patriot Pride reward meal!

Our 8th grade 1st semester Careers and Leadership class has been talking about the importance of being a good leader and working together as a team. This week, they practiced these skills in this cup stacking activity. During several rounds of this activity they had guidelines to follow like no talking, only the leader could talk, everyone communicating and coming up with their own strategy. Some groups were more successful than others. During the reflection time, students agreed that it is important to have good leadership qualities and have good communication skills.

Our GEM girls have started meetings and are planning ways to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle this school year! They kicked off this September playing volleyball, kickball, badminton, spike ball and 4-Square!

For the 2nd year in a row, our OCMS Volleyball team won the Athens Area Middle School Volleyball League Championship! They beat Lake Oconee in round one, Loganville Christian in round 2, & Prince Avenue in the finals. Great job to our girls & Coaches Kirk & Edwards!

Congrats, once again, to our OCMS Football players, cheerleaders, & coaches on their last home game win of the season!!! We're now 6-0 after beating Commerce Middle School 48-6! Our last game is next Wednesday at Apalachee where we hope to finalize an undefeated season. Good luck to our volleyball team this Saturday at their end-of-season tournament. And good luck to our softball team as they play their first post-season game Monday at Loganville Christian! Goooo OCMS Patriots!!!!

Due to bus issues for Commerce, our football game for 9/18/2024 will be pushed back to start at 5:30.
