*Read with a Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson voice. Can you smell what these 6th, 7th, & 8th graders are cookin’?!?!   *Transition to a "Mean Gene" Okerlund voice. These students hold the current title belts for having the highest Math or Reading MAP Assessment or the most growth between the Fall & Winter on either the Math or Reading MAP Assessment for their grade.  Who will hold the titles after the Spring MAP Assessment?   *Now switch to a Randy "Macho Man" Savage voice. Encourage your student to do their best on the MAP Assessments so that they can one day tote the title. Ooooohh Yeah!!!

Great job to Ms. Serrian & her 7th/8th Grade Band, her Jazz Band, & the small ensembles/soloists that played tonight at OCMS. The concert served as a chance to practice their Large Group Performance Evaluation pieces to be performed in two weeks in front of judges. They sound superior already!

Our OCMS 8th graders were welcomed at OCHS to a great morning of tours at the high school.  They got to see all of the CTAE labs, learn about their pathway choices at the high school for next year, and meet the OCHS Administration and Guidance Counselors.  They did a fantastic job making a good first impression and the high schoolers that served as tour guides did a phenomenal job of showing them around!   Watching them grow and transition into the high school life is always exciting.   Rising 9th Grade Registration/OCHS Parent Orientation is set for Thursday, February 26th at 6:00 in the OCHS Cafeteria.

Oglethorpe County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay on Tuesday, February 3. Thank you to our roads department who have been working diligently to get roads treated and prepared, and to our local Emergency Management Agency for their support and guidance. As always, families should use their best judgment regarding roads in your area. Please be patient with our bus drivers as they navigate the routes 2 hours later in the morning. Students may begin being dropped off at 9:30 am. Please do not drop off students any earlier as the schools will not be open. Buses will pick up 2 hours later than the usual pick up time. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support as we work to keep our students and staff safe.

Although road conditions continue to improve and the main roads look good, there are still too many back roads and dirt roads that remain too icy for our buses to safely transport students. Therefore, Oglethorpe County Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, January 27. Teachers and paraprofessionals will observe a workday from home. All staff should watch for an email with more information.

7th graders spread holiday cheer at the Oglethorpe County Senior Center. Students read highlights of the story the Nutcracker in the role of characters. They also distributed sugar cookies and handmade beaded ornaments. Quality conversations were ignited as students interviewed seniors to complete tic-tac-toe cards connected to the Nutcracker story. Supplies were made possible by a $250 Thivent grant that encourages us to Live Generously. A special Thank You goes to Lynn Faust for securing the grant for Ms. Atao’s classes.
